Woulda, coulda, shoulda. This is the one that got away. We were oh-so-close to pulling off this upset over the eventual 2019 national champs. Only Auburn and Bama played them closer. Not that it matters. We had College Gameday on the Forty, and DKR was rockin’, but this loss really stung.

Maybe that’s why I lost the “E” and “A” of the TEXAS I so dutifully spelled with Mike & Ike candy. The Mike & Ikes were in tribute to Mike the Tiger, the handsome fella Katie and I had met in Baton Rouge while on our epic Sugar Bowl road trip.

If only the “E” and “A” were all we lost that day!

Texas Bowl, Our Texas Bowl

It’s not every game that the MVP award goes to the punter, but man, did Michael Dickson deserve it! Ten of his 11 punts pinned Mizzou inside their own 15, and the Horns made the most of that. Our D score 9 points and forced four turnovers in this big win, which we hoped would send us into 2018 with big MO on our side.

It was great to get back to our bowl game ways, and beating Mizzou? That was SWEET.

Even sweeter? Getting to spend time with our Houston family while we were there.

Only a Tiger would think this game was “GRRRREAT.” Mizzou was vicious, like, um, a “cereal killer.”

The only good thing about this lousy game? It took place during a free weekend of Longhorn Network, the fantastic all Horns, all the time channel that was not available from my cable provider at the time. My husband was out of town, but with LHN streaming online, I fell asleep with my Macbook at my side. (Sad but true!)
